It looks like the plot is thickening – After it was brought to the attention of the Trade and Industry Minister Mr. Rob Davies of the possibilities that there was some maladministration, corrupt activities and monies being used for personal activities within the South African Gambling Board, Mr. Davies seemed to have no alternative but to suspend all the members.

A forensic investigation is now underway into these affairs – The Board is responsible basically to oversee and to regulate the South African Gambling Industry.

Mr. Davies said that this was a precautionary measure and that due to the allegations that were put forward and reported by the Auditor General.

The report goes on to say the Public Finance Management Act was also believed to have been contravened as it failed to prevent irregular and wasteful expenditure as well as making an overdraft on the entity’s Bank account with no approval.

Once this can of worms was opened, it has come to light that there were several other allegations made regarding those members who’s term of office had expired and who continued participating in all activities, the alleged corruption in the National Central Electronic Monitoring System and increasing their own remuneration by at least 46% during the period 2013/14.

The DA. have said that they would be submitting to Parliament a list of questions to determine when the investigation would be completed, and would move to have criminal charges brought against any board member found to have acted unlawfully, he said.
